June is National Dairy Month. As such, each Friday in June I will feature a recipe that is full of dairy goodness. Tomorrow's recipe will celebrate two national food events. Now that's all I'm telling you about tomorrow's post. Right now, let me give you some details about National Dairy Month.
National Dairy Month initially began as National Milk Month back in 1937. It was a month-long celebration that was created to promote milk consumption and stabilize demand. Since then, it has become a tradition to acknowledge the dairy industry's various contributions both domestically and abroad.
Of course dairy is more than just the milk we drink. It encompasses all things made from milk like various cheeses, butter, yogurt, curds, etc. It is not just dairy products that come from cow's milk. Goat's, sheep's and even in some regions of the world, horse dairy products exist.
I for one am intolerant of pasteurized whole milk but I can eat butter, cheese, and yogurt. So I can participate in National Dairy Month. For those who are lactose intolerant or vegan, there are plenty of dairy-free and vegan options available.
For the dairy-inspired recipes I will post every Friday June, if I can find a non-dairy substitute, I will mention it in the posts. I know I don't intend to be left out of the food fun this June. How about you?
